Meghan Markle formally complained to the British broadcaster ITV after Piers Morgan yelled at her and accused her of lying on ‘Good Morning Britain’ about her mental health.
According to The Guardian, the British Office of Communications had received more than 41,000 complaints about Morgan’s behavior by Tuesday, prompting the regulator to investigate whether Morgan’s comments violated the broadcasting and offending code.
A formal complaint was also lodged on behalf of the Duchess of Sussex with ITV, the UK network hosting the morning talk show.
Amid the setback, the famed host left the show sensationally on Tuesday, hours after he stormed off the set when his co-star Alex Beresford called him because he continued to make ‘trash’ to the couple’s trash the couple with Oprah Winfrey.
About two hours later, ITV issued a statement saying: ‘After talks with ITV, Piers Morgan decided it was time to leave Good Morning Britain. ITV has accepted this decision and has nothing further to add. ”
Morgan expressed doubts about the show after Markle opened up to Winfrey about suicidal thoughts, including allegations that she was told that seeking help would not look good for a member of the royal family.
“Who did you go to?” Morgan said on Monday on ‘Good Morning Britain’. What did they tell you? I’m sorry, I do not believe a word she said, Meghan Markle. I would not believe it if she read a weather report to me. ‘
Following the comments of the TV host, it is understood that ITV honchos wanted Morgan to apologize on the air.
Morgan said on Tuesday that he still did not believe Markle, but insisted that he take mental illness very seriously.
“When we talked about this yesterday, I said as an all-encompassing thing, I do not believe what Meghan Markle says in general in this interview, and I am still seriously concerned about the truth of much of what she said.”
He added: ‘But let me just state on my record my position on mental illness and suicide. These are clearly extremely serious things that need to be taken extremely seriously, and if someone feels that way, they need to get the treatment and help they need every time. ”
