Meet the Moby X, an electric tribute to the Porsche 935 Moby Dick – Robb report

Among racing enthusiasts, there are few Porsches that rank higher than the 935 Moby Dick, a heavily modified 911 track track that owes its literary nickname to its long-tail design. But no matter how respectful the car may be, Bisimoto saw room for improvement.

The California-based aftermarket has just announced the Moby X, an upcoming futuristic tribute to the legendary racer. And the new design is not the only area where the racer will differ from his inspiration; it is also powered by a fully electric drive system.

The original Moby Dick was a 1978 model year 935 – the factory racing version of the 911 – which was a regular feature of endurance rides such as the 24 Hours of Le Mans during the late 1970s and ’80s. Thanks to a Martinelli race and an ultra-aerodynamic body that included the “whale tail” at the rear, the car made a big impression on fans and is now considered one of the most iconic racers in Porsche history. . It is therefore no surprise that Bisi Ezerioha, founder of Bisimoto, wants to pay tribute to the car.

More surprising are the freedoms that Ezerioha and his collaborators, a group that includes designer Errolson Hugh and digital artist Khyzyl Saleem, have taken with the ever-evolving Moby X. Though made very clear based on the Moby Dick, it’s not an inch-perfect relaxation. Both vehicles have the same general shape, but the tribute does not have the large rear wing of the original, is equipped with LED lighting and has swapped the Martinelli color scheme for a sinister black, gray and white color.

However, the most radical deviation is not visible at a glance. According to Designboom, the Moby X will be powered by a fully electric engine that gets its juice from a 32 kWh battery pack. Although no details are available at the moment, the car will reportedly be able to produce 635 horses, which should make it just as powerful as the original Moby Dick.

Bisimoto Engineering has not yet announced when the car will be ready, other than to say it will be sometime this year. Expect more of an official debut date in the near future, along with more technical information.
