Medical treated at home, ante hospitals saturated by covid-19 in Brasilië

Desperate and impotent, the doctor Marcos Fonseca Barbosa opted to treat at home, his mother, coronavirus disease. The hope for hospitalization in Manaos, in the north of Brazil, was unattainable: “Tuve miedo de que muriera en mis brazos”, confiesa.

As a medical doctor for emergencies, Marcos, 36 years old, intends to admit in intensive care this past week, but the public hospital 28th of August is fully established by the constant internationalization of new patients, in a city where the number of contagious -19 exponentially subdivided into previous years.

His mother, Ruth, 56 years old, “had a fever, a bad patient. I was presented as a doctor, but we had four hopeful hours, sent in plastic bags”, related to AFP.

“I can not blame my colleagues, because it is a war zone”, acknowledges this medicine that works in various clinical clinics, also saturated by the pandemic.

With 2 million inhabitants, Manaos, the capital of the Brazilian Amazon, there are scenes of horror scenes in April and May, with common cavities in public cemeteries and refrigerated trucks installed in hospitals to preserve the corpses of the fallen.

Pero the situation is peor since the beginning of this year: between the 1st and the 11th of January 1,979 new hospitalizations were recorded due to coronavirus, up to 2,128 in all of April 2020, in the most complicated since the pandemic attack.

The fallow deer enterprises by covid-19 also recorded baten records: in the first ten days of 2021 379 were registered, more than the 348 of Mayo.

Improvisation at home

“I never imagined a situation like this, nor in my pees’ peas,” Marcos relates.

When it comes to the fact that his mother’s footsteps fall due to bed failure in intensive care, even the slopes of the situation.

“I was desperate, I was afraid that my mother would wallow in my braces, in a plastic chair. In an impulse, she would pull the brace, put her in the car and drive her home.”

“Llamé had all my friends and antiguos patients to those who had been treated at home for help,” he said.

So I installed an oxygen tank and a non-invasive mechanical fan, which was installed in a hospital bed improvised on its own premises.

Ruth “should be intubated”, but in his circles he looked for alternatives: “the living mantle with a nebulizer” and a nasal catheter to facilitate his respiration, explains.

“He had four days without leaving his barn, so he was anxious to return his guards to the hospital.” Ahora la cuida su esposa, que es maestra.

“Afortunadamente está mejor, pero no me impide llamar sin parar para tener novedades”.

If you want to take the credit of having saved salvation, Marcos thinks that it actually helped his mother to “be willing to live and work hard”

“It’s a worthwhile milestone that she lives with”.
