McLaren Artura Hybrid Supercar unveiled with 671-HP electrified V6

In 2012, McLaren launched the P1 hyper engine. The brand’s first hybrid product has a combined output of 727 horsepower (542 kilowatts), a time of 0-62 of 2.8 seconds and an electric range of about 31 kilometers. But the car cost more than $ 1.0 million if it were new – now McLaren offers almost as much exciting work at a much cheaper price.

The 2022 McLaren Artura is the first high-production hybrid in the range. It features a dual-turbocharged 3.0-liter V6 that delivers just 577 hp (430 kW) and 434 pounds (584 newton-meters). The ‘E-car’, located in the transmission clock house, adds another 94 hp (70 kW) and 225 Nm (166 lb-ft), bringing the total combined output to a solid 671 hp (500 kW) and 593 lb increase. -ft (804 Nm).

The power drives the Artura within just 3.0 seconds to 62 miles per hour – only 0.2 seconds slower than the P1 – and to a limited top speed of 205 mph. This drive system is exclusively coupled to a new eight-speed dual-clutch transmission.

The electric motor uses a battery pack consisting of five lithium-ion modules with a combined capacity of 7.4 kilowatt-hours. Like the P1, the Artura has a 19-mile pure electric range with plug-in capability. Using a standard EVSE charger, owners can recharge their cars from zero to 80 percent within two and a half hours.

The Artura is the first vehicle in the range to use the new McLaren Carbon Lightweight Architecture (or MCLA). Engineers have specifically designed this platform to accommodate hybrid propulsions such as these, with super-shaped aluminum and carbon fiber enabling shaped dimensions while keeping weight to a minimum.

In all, the McLaren Artura weighs 3,303 pounds (or 3,075 pounds dry). The hybrid components, such as the car and the battery, weigh only 287 pounds together. The battery pack weighs 194 pounds, while the E-Motor weighs in at 34 pounds. The gas engine, meanwhile, weighs 353 pounds – making it 110 pounds lighter than the previous V8.

The new MCLA architecture also enables McLaren to integrate a number of active security features for the first time. Standard on the Artura are customizable cruise control, lane departure warning, large beam support and traffic sign recognition, all linked to on-air updates. The technology inside also gets a style. The Artura is the first car in the series with the new McLaren infotainment system (called MIS II), complete with a high-definition touchscreen, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, and a new track telemetry software with ‘ A Variable Drift Control function (that the company specifies is for track use only).
