Three more McLean County residents have died from COVID-19 complications.
All three were men – one in his 60s and one in his 70s who did not live in long-term care facilities, and another in his 90s. There are now 213 COVID-related deaths in McLean County since the onset of the pandemic.
The McLean County Department of Health (MCHD) on Tuesday reported 53 new confirmed or probable cases of coronavirus as the province’s positive rate rose to 5.7%.
There are 44 McLean County residents hospitalized with COVID. The hospital bed capacity remained at 4%. There are more patients in intensive care. That rate is back at 88%.
The active case load is off overnight. The figure is now 589, with 545 provincial residents isolating themselves at home. An additional 68 people are now considered recovery.
MCHD suspended the administration of the Johnson & Johnson vaccine until further notice. This follows a joint statement from the CDC and FDA in which the single-dose shots are stopped from an “abundance of caution” while health officials investigate reports of rare, potentially dangerous blood clots.

A vaccination clinic planned for students at Wesleyan University of Illinois on Tuesday has been postponed. MCHD and IWU have notified those planning to get a shot. These appointments will be rescheduled.
All other MCHD clinics will proceed as planned. The Johnson & Johnson vaccine is not available at any of the clinics in the Grossinger Motors Arena this week.
