McDonald’s new Crispy Chicken Sandwiches has an official launch date

McDonald’s has announced the release date for its latest crispy chicken sandwiches, because of course McDonald’s will not let Popeyes have this one thing once.

In an interview with Reuters, Mickey D’s confirmed that the three new sandwiches will make their debut on February 24, 2021, more than a year after they first appeared in test markets in restaurants in Knoxville, Tennessee, and Houston, Texas.

In addition to the standard and luxury versions of McDonald's Crispy Chicken Sandwich, the chain will apparently offer a spicy version.

The sandwich, as offered in Knoxville and Houston, features a fried chicken fillet served on a potato roll, topped with butter and pickles, while the luxury version featured tomatoes, lettuce and mayo. Reuters reported that a spicy version will also be available.

Similarly, Popeyes’ Chicken Sandwich and Chick-fil-A’s original Chicken Sandwich are both served with fried chicken fillets, sauce – or butter, in the case of Chick-fil-A – and pickles. As seen in photos released by McDonald’s last year, the chain’s new sandwiches, like its competitors, will be served in a foil sandwich bag.

On the current menu, McDonald’s offers a buttermilk crispy chicken sandwich, served in a box, and a McChicken, wrapped in paper.

McDonald's originally announced in November that its new Crispy Chicken Sandwich would hit nationwide menus in 2021, though the chain did not give a specific date.

McDonald’s originally announced in November that its new Crispy Chicken Sandwich would hit nationwide menus in 2021, though the chain did not announce a specific date at the time.

“McDonald’s has a major opportunity to expand its chicken offering, a category that is growing faster than beef,” the restaurant said in a statement at the time. “This includes leveraging the extraordinary global strength of Chicken McNuggets and the McChicken sandwich and investing in new line expansions and flavors. It also means continuing to offer food that matches current consumer trends and taste profiles, such as spicy . “

However, it is no surprise that McDonald’s is doubling its chicken supply. Since the launch of the Popeyes Chicken Sandwich in 2019, and its subsequent success, McDonald’s has been offering a Spicy BBQ Chicken Sandwich before testing the crispy chicken sandwich that will be released soon.
