McCarthy issues apparent reprimand over GOP caucus platform promoting ‘Anglo-Saxon political traditions’

House minority leader Kevin McCarthy, R-California, said the Republican Party is not the party of ‘nativist dog whistles’, in an apparent reprimand of the leaked platform of a new caucus reportedly formed by several Republicans.

“America is built on the idea that we are all created equal and that success is earned through honest, hard work. It is not built on identity, race or religion,” McCarthy wrote on Twitter. “The Republican Party is Lincoln’s party and the party of more opportunities for all Americans – not the whistles of the nativists.”

Punchbowl News first reported on plans for the ‘America First’ caucus on Friday. The group is led by representatives Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., And Paul Gosar, R-Ariz.

The seven-page policy outline achieved by Punchbowl said members of the caucus should have a “certain intellectual boldness” to follow in the footsteps of President Trump and “potentially step on some toes and sacrifice sacred cows to for the sake of the American nation. ”

A copy of the platform was obtained by The Hill.

The group’s view is that electoral fraud is widespread and that the electoral system needs serious reform, including the end of voting by post.

On immigration, the group argues that “America is a nation, with a border and a culture, strengthened by unique Anglo-Saxon political traditions.”

“History has shown that societal trust and political unity are threatened when foreign nationals are massively imported into a country, especially without institutional support for assimilation,” the document reads.

In terms of infrastructure, the group promotes buildings with ‘architectural, engineering and aesthetic value that fit the descendants of European architecture.’ On coronavirus, the group is advocating for the termination of closures and requirements for social distance.

Rep. Lou-Gohmert, R-Texas, told reporters he was “watching it” at the America First caucus.

When asked about references to the “Anglo-Saxon” influence, he said he did not see it.

“It’s not supposed to be about race at all,” Gohmert said.

Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., Tweeted Friday that he will join the caucus.

‘I’m proud to join @mtgreenee in the #AmericaFirst Koukus. “We will end wars, stop illegal immigration and promote trade that is fair to American workers,” Gaetz tweeted. This is just a hit piece from the America Last crowd in Big Media, Big Tech & Big Government. “

“Capitol Hill is full of dirty, backstabbing nutcrackers who are willing to leak gossip to tabloid newspapers, such as Punchbowl News,” spokesman Nick Dyer said. “Look out for a public release for the America First Caucus platform when it’s soon to be made public.”
