The House Select subcommittee on the Coronavirus held a hearing on Thursday entitled ‘Reaching the Light at the End of the Tunnel: Ending COVID-19’, but it erupted in a screaming match when Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, dr. Anthony pressed. Fauci when this can happen if the restrictions are lifted.
Jordan got to the point and noted that Fauci recently wrote that it is not yet time to stop taking precautions such as social distance, avoiding gatherings and wearing face masks.

“When is the time?” Ask Jordan. “When will Americans regain their freedom?”
“When we get the infection level in this country low enough that it’s not really a big threat,” Fauci said. Jordan went on to ask for details for which level would be low enough.
“What is low enough? Give me a number … what criteria, what measures, what must happen before Americans get their freedoms?” he asked.
Fauci responded that his message was to ensure that as many Americans as possible were vaccinated as quickly as possible “to get the level of infection in this country low so that it is no longer a threat.”
“It’s then,” he replied.
Jordan, who is not happy with the answer, asks Fauci what determines when the level is reached.
“What outcome must we achieve before Americans regain their freedom and liberties?” he asked.

Fauci disputes Jordan’s characterization of the case as a matter of freedom and liberty instead of a public health crisis where he tries to get people to die.
“Do you not think that Americans’ freedoms have been threatened in the last year?” Fauci? ‘ Ask Jordan and vote. “They were assaulted!”
“I do not consider it a matter of freedom, Congressman Jordan, I consider it a matter of public health,” Fauci said. “I do not completely agree with you on that.”
Jordan noted that the Constitution did not disappear during a pandemic. Fauci, who raised his own tone, said that “it will definitely end if we get the infection level very low.”
The congressman then cited a number of restrictions such as people not being able or limited in their ability to go to houses of worship, a curfew rule last year in Ohio and restrictions on guests at their homes. Jordan then pointed to the censorship of a video where doctors disagree with Fauci’s positions, which led Fauci to claim that Jordan makes things personal.
“It’s not a personal thing,” Jordan claims, asking Fauci to shout back, “You are! That’s exactly what you’re doing. ‘
This was a stark contrast to the fact that the previous member of Congress, Rep. Maxine Waters, D-California, Fauci interviewed. Waters ended her time by saying, “Dr. Fauci, I love you.”

Fauci further said that his recommendations are not personal but are based on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Jordan then asked “what measures need to be taken” to lift restrictions. Fauci claims he only told him this, but Jordan remarked that he never gave a specific answer.
After Jordan’s time officially expired, committee chairman Jim Clyburn, DS.C., said he would be pleased when 90% of Congress is vaccinated. As a result, Jordan again asked Fauci for a specific standard.
“When? What are the numbers?” he presses.
“At the moment we are at an unacceptably high level,” Fauci said. “What you are going to see as more and more people are vaccinated and we get more than three million people a day, you will see the level of infection go down and down, and gradually there will be more flexibility around the things you are talking about.”
Jordan again asked for a specific number. Fauci began to respond, but the next member began to speak and thanked Clyburn.
“I would like my question answered!” Claimed Jordan.
“You must respect the chair and close your mouth!” Waters screamed.

“Don’t worry about it, we’re going to deal with it,” Clyburn said in response. “I think Mr Jordan knows me very well, and he knows very well that we are going to deal with it.”
Jordan thanked Clyburn and the trial moved forward.
