Matthew McConaughey said Wednesday he is considering running for governor of Texas.
The “Dallas Buyers Club” star acknowledged the possibility of being the candidate while being interviewed on a podcast of “The Balanced Voice”.
McConaughey, 51, spoke of his current roles as a parent and professor at the University of Texas when he wondered aloud what his next step in life would be.
“And now I look, what’s my leadership role?” asked McConaughey. “Because I think I have some things to learn and share.
“What is my role, what is my category in my next chapter of life that I am going to now?” he continues.
Host Rania Mankarious took the opportunity to ask whether a government would be the next step.
“It’s a real consideration,” said the Oscar winner.
Last November, McConaughey did not rule out a candidate for political office when asked in a radio interview about the possibility.
Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, a Republican, could be re-elected in 2022.
