Match of the Millennium comes to the Nintendo Switch later this month

The crossover returns after 2 decades

The first battle game in the epic clash of Capcom and SNK has largely gone unplayed and become unclear due to its platform, but now everyone has the chance to see how things started.

SNK announced tonight that SNK will appear worldwide on the Nintendo Switch against Capcom: Match of the Millennium on February 17th.

The latest member of the NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection comes 26 fighters split between the iconic grids of both companies.

Fatal Fury, The King of Fighters, Art of Fighting, Samurai Shodown and The Last Blade members form the SNK side of things plus Athena, while Capcom draws from Street Fighter’s World Warriors and Darkstalkers.

Although Match of the Millennium at the same time as the first combat game Capcom vs. SNK has developed, it is completely different as it is based on The King of Fighters R series on the NeoGeo Pocket Color.

This of course means that the game uses more chibis and less detailed sprites than their arcade contemporaries, but it’s full of charm and character without sacrificing the tight controls.

Although SNK did not say outright otherwise, SNK against Capcom is unlikely to have online features like the other titles from the collection, but local multiplayer is available.

It’s very interesting to see the SNK and Capcom logos side by side on a ‘current’ game release, but there is currently little reason to hope for more on the front – unless they intend to use the SNK vs. Capcom release: Card Fighters titles.

Match of the Millennium is the sixth game in the NeoGeo Pocket Color Selection, with the previous versions: SNK Gals’ Fighters, Samurai Shodown! 2, King of Fighters R-2, The Last Blade: Beyond the Destiny and Fatal Fury First Contact.

All other NeoGeo Pocket Color reissues are on the Nintendo eShop $ 7.99 USD, but SNK has not yet announced a price for this history of fighting game.
