The Fallout modding community is buzzing today with the release of Fallout – The Frontier, a giant mod project for Fallout: New Vegas that adds full content from the new game to Obsidian’s iconic RPG game.
Fallout – The Frontier moves the action to the snowy street of Portland, Oregon. However, many of the players remain the same: you are a courier and you find yourself in the middle of a conflict between the New California Republic and the cruel Caesar’s Legion factions, and the three main lines will take you under Portland’s streets after discovering the city’s secrets before the war.
This is truly an amazing mod – it not only adds a new map that is about the size of New Vegas’ Mojave, but also adds steerable vehicles, many new weapons and over 150 new weapons, and a thoughtful written, adult story that does not hesitate to show players the gruesome devastation of nuclear war. It is before the events of the Battle of Hoover Dam, so that it is placed within the overarching Fallout timeline, but aside from the well-known factions, The Frontier is a whole new Fallout story to explore and experience.
The creators say that The Frontier is ‘without a doubt’ the greatest mod ever released for Fallout: New Vegas (or any Fallout game, for that matter), and while we can not independently verify it, there is plenty in the mod around the claim. Here is the trailer:

Go to Nexus Mods to download Fallout – The Frontier. You also need the 4GB Patcher, the New Vegas Script Extender, the JIP LN NVSE Plugin and the User Interface Organizer mod. The developers of The Frontier also recommend using New Vegas Anti-Crash and the Mod Configuration Menu.

Just follow the directions on the information sheet for The Frontier carefully, and it would be good if you start investigating Portland after the apocalypse. There’s also a dedicated page on Steam, which is an easier way to get everything working together.
