Mass vaccination site at Oakland Coliseum opens Tuesday – East Bay Times

OAKLAND – The Oakland Coliseum website will open on Tuesday to accommodate up to 6,000 vaccines a day.

Healthcare workers, residents of competent nursing homes and assistance facilities, food and agricultural workers, teachers and other childcare staff, emergency services workers and all residents aged 65 and over can now sign up for an appointment at the Coliseum site.

People who fall into the categories can go to myturn.ca.gov or call 1-833-422-4255 to schedule an appointment.

People who are not yet eligible for a vaccine can still register on the MyTurn website to be notified when they can make an appointment.

The vaccine will work daily from 07:00 to 19:00

To increase access to the site, AC Transit has announced that it will offer free shuttle services to the mass vaccination premises, which operate daily from 06:00 to 20:00.

One shuttle runs every 15 minutes from the Coliseum BART station to the vaccination site, and those traveling on bus lines 45, 46L, 73, 90 and 98 can join the vaccine shuttle at the Coliseum BART station. Another shuttle transports every 20 minutes from the Eastmont Transit Center to the Coliseum BART station and then to the Coliseum vaccine. Bus riders on lines, including the 1T, 40, 45, 57, 73, 90, 98 and NL, can also join the vaccine shuttle at the Eastmont Transit Center.

According to a news release from AC Transit, drivers of the free shuttle must show their email confirming an appointment with a vaccine.

BART also announced last week that riders can get free rides home from the vaccination center by showing their vaccination cards to BART staff at the station to receive a $ 7 ticket – enough to get anywhere in the system except the San Francisco International Airport. stop.

The opening of the Colosseum as a place to get the vaccine marks the expansion of massive vaccination sites in California. Last week, the 49ers and Santa Clara County opened vaccinations at Levi’s Stadium, which officials say will be the largest vaccination site in California in the coming weeks.

But supply can remain an ongoing problem to increase the number of vaccinations in the area. In San Francisco, officials announced they had to suspend two COVID-19 vaccination sites – at Moscone Center and San Francisco City College – for several days over a limited, inconsistent and unpredictable offer.

Oakland Deputy Mayor Rebecca Kaplan said in a news release on Monday that she and Eastern Oakland Councilor Treva Reid are working with state and federal officials to improve their equitable outreach to sub-communities, and to collaborate on more mobile vaccination sites. with local community organizations. .
