Mass shooting in Chicago: video captures the moment the gunman opened fire in the Park Manor warehouse party

CHICAGO (WLS) – Exclusive video shows the moment when someone fired shots over the weekend inside a warehouse party on Chicago’s South Side.

The scene was chaotic, with bullets flying as people ran for cover. Now the mayor plans to hold the owner of the building accountable.

The big party in a warehouse on the city of South Side ended with 15 people shot and two killed. In the video taken early Sunday morning in the after-party, people can be seen dancing and having fun. Moments later, gunfire breaks out.

“Playing music, people having fun, and the next thing you know I hear shooting,” a witness told ABC7 Chicago. “Then everyone went screaming to the ground.”

A witness who did not want to be identified said one of her friends was hit twice.

“He shot and asked me to come and help him, so I drove him to the hospital,” the witness said. “He was in front of the party, so he shot. They shot from the front of the party.”

The shooting happened just before 5 a.m. Sunday in the 6700 block of S. South Chicago Avenue.

The building is used for car repairs and towing, but it was full overnight.

Chicago’s Department of Business and Consumer Protection has twice issued termination orders to several businesses located at the address. The offenses, which began in 2018, were for the illegal operation of a cigar and liquor store without the proper business license.

In 2019, the city said the owner of the building was arrested for violating the order and the illegal business was closed.

“It was obviously an unauthorized use for the plant,” Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot said.

“Given the history, I would expect some important steps to be taken.”

The medical examiner identified the two murdered as Rayneesha Dotson (30) and Lionel Darling (39). Dotson’s family said she had just moved to Texas to escape the violent violence.

Chicago police believe the shooting is linked to the gang.

“Everyone on the ground was finding a way out,” the witness said. “It confused me inside.”

According to city records, there was a follow-up investigation in 2019 and no problems were found. The mayor is now working on the matter.

No one is currently in custody for the shooting.
