Marvel’s Avengers has Hawkeye and the PS5 and Xbox Series X versions released on March 18

Smoother performance, faster loading times and haptic feedback await players upgrading to the next generation

Finally, we have a date (March 18) for the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X versions of Marvel’s Avengers – but is it too little too late? Square Enix and Crystal Dynamics are certainly hoping for a big boost to a rocky and slower-than-expected update and new content after the launch.

The PS5 and Xbox Series X versions of Avengers will have “improved footage and frame rates,” “significantly faster loading times,” “enhanced destruction,” and in the case of the PS5’s DualSense controller, “haptic feedback for each hero. ‘What does the Hulk do feel like? Inquiries want to know.

Of course, there is still the elephant in the room: the need for fresh story content to bring players back into the kraal. Avengers is also releasing the next story and character update, Clint Barton’s Future Imperfect, on March 18th. Is it weird to have two archers in a row in an Avengers game? Unbelievable.

Crystal Dynamics covered Clint’s kit – including a Quick Reflex evasion / parry, a single target Dead Eye attack, a katana and many darts like Boomerang and Tripwire darts – in a deep dive video.

“While Kate cuts to the battlefield as a blur from the endless attacks on multiple enemies, Clint is the steadfast hunter who takes down his enemies with one and all powerful, precise hits,” the studio said.

As for the (free) Future Imperfect storyline, it lends itself Old Man Hawkeye and my life as a weapon; Nick Fury is MIA. You’ve probably seen Maestro by now, but it’s worth explaining that Clint’s mission is set on a new biome, Wasteland – and that Lucky’s the dog.

I can see that people want to play the single player Avengers story on the new consoles thanks to the performance gain, but what gives the live service elements a shot in the arm? I’m not optimistic.

The sooner they can get this update at the door, the sooner we can see big players like Spider-Man.
