One of Marvel Studios‘greatest achievement is the careful planning that went on from the beginning in its cinematic universe. This is why other studios’ attempts to replicate the success have failed (RIP Dark Universe), and why Marvel is going strong, even after it did, Endgame. For the next few years, Marvel has already hosted theatrical releases and Disney + shows. But how many buffers can Marvel Studios have if the pandemic throws a key in the carefully composed works? According to Marvel CEO, it is worth at least 5 to 6 years Kevin Feige.
In a recent interview with Collider, head of Marvel Studios, Kevin Feige, revealed that Marvel has always followed a formula for planning its film and television, and that the formula will carry them through the foreseeable future.
“In varying degrees of specificity, it’s always about 5 to 6 years compared to what we announced,” Feige said. “So wherever we take it.”
This means that Marvel is already developing projects that we will only see in 2025 or 2026 (or maybe even later, if the ongoing pandemic does the job). We already know what Marvel has in store for the next few years, with 2021 already stacked with titles in both streaming and theater: the upcoming Disney + series WandaVision, Falcon and the Winter Soldier, Loki, and the theater films Black widow and Eternal. Further down the line we have Taika Waititi’s Thor: love and thunder, the third Spider man starring Tom Holland, an MCU recording Fantastic Four, and more. And of course, there is the wealth of Marvel Disney + shows for which WandaVision will act as a test run.
Of the announced programs, Feige was able to announce to Collider some of the expected run times for episodes of the upcoming lead. WandaVision is a series of 9 episodes consisting of a half-hour episode, but the format will change with each program, ranging from hours to somewhere in between.
“Well, we look a little different. We regard it as its development as six-hour episodes, or nine or ten half-hour episodes, ”Feige explained. ‘So, for example, WandaVision started like this […] 30 minutes, but because it’s streaming, it’s Disney +, and the rules have faded over the years, yes. Some can last 23 minutes. Some can be much longer than that. But She-Hulk, for example, is being developed as ten episodes of 30 minutes. Some will be longer and others shorter. Loki, Falcon and the Winter Soldier are developed as six episodes of 40-50 minutes. ”
Feige did not mention the duration for emerging programs such as not Hawkeye, Marvel, of What if, but he does expect Moon Knight to fall in the series of six, 40-50 minutes.
So there you have it: Marvel will continue to exist in both movie theaters and Disney + in the foreseeable future, and Marvel Studios has planned everything until the time of the episode.
