Marvel boss Kevin Feige dismisses rumor that Chris Evans returns as Captain America: ‘It was driven by the man himself’

Chris Evans is unlikely to repeat his role as Captain America, despite feverish speculation.

Reports circulated in January that Chris Evens might return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as Steve Rogers after apparently retiring the character in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame.

“News for me,” the 39-year-old actor tweeted at the time in response to the rumors.

Now, Marvel Studios president Kevin Feige has closed the reports during an interview with EW released on Wednesday.

“I rarely say no to anything anymore, because things always surprise me with what happens, but the rumor, I think, was dispelled fairly quickly by the man himself,” he told the publication.

It seems clear that fans should not expect to see Evans when the spin-off series The Falcon and the Winter Soldier appears on Disney + on Friday.

The news comes on the same day that the Marvel Comics company announced the first gay Captain America on Tuesday. He debuted in The United States of Captain America # 1 during Pride Month in June.

The new character is named Aaron Fischer and represents the first LGBTQ person to pick up the hero’s shield in the 80’s history of the comic.

The limited series follows the original Captain America, Steve Rogers, as he searches for his missing shield. Along the way, he meets those inspired by the Captain America symbol to help their own communities.

Author Joshya Trujillo, known as’ Captain America of the Railways’, described the character in a statement: ‘Aaron was inspired by heroes of the alien community: activists, leaders and everyday people who strive for a better life.

“He stands for the oppressed and the forgotten. I hope his debut story resonates with readers and can inspire the next generation of heroes, ‘he added.
