Mars strikes back? Extremely bright meteor ignites wild chatter on social media (VIDEOS) – RT UK News

Befuddle Brits from Scotland in the north to Somerset in the south were amazed by a phenomenal bright flash in the night sky, which reportedly lasted about seven seconds and ended with a loud surge.

The fireball was so bright that it swept through the UK shortly before 10pm local time from Manchester to Cardiff, Bath and Milton Keynes and everywhere in between, while the British Meteor Network received more than 120 reports of sightings.

Social media is flooded with videos pretending to show the heavenly fireworks display.

“From the two videos we saw that it was a slow-moving meteor with clearly visible fragmentation,” The British Meteorological Network said.

According to the American Meteor Society (AMS), fireballs are generally as bright as the planet Venus (magnitude -4) when observed at night or in the morning, while a full moon compared to -12.6 and the sun -26, 7 is.

‘At first I thought it was a bright star or an airplane, then it got bigger and faster, then a big flash lit up the sky and it burst into a massive tail of orange sparks dragging backwards like a huge fireworks! ‘wrote an astonished stargazer.

Another user wondered aloud if the phenomenon was that Martians paid back for NASA’s Perseverance Rover touching their red planet.
