Mark Cuban says he will sell Mavericks tickets for Dogecoin

Mark Cuban swings with the Dogecoin.

After saying last month that the joke cryptocurrency “has no intrinsic value,” the billionaire owner of Dallas Mavericks said Thursday he decided to accept Dogecoin as a payment option for fans of his NBA franchise.

“The Mavericks have decided to accept Dogecoin as payment for Mavs tickets and merchandise for one very important, earth-shattering reason, because we can!” Cuban said in a press release.

“We chose to do it because sometimes you have to do things that are fun, engaging and hopefully generate a lot of PR,” Cuban added. “We will take Dogecoin, today, tomorrow and possibly forever more.”

Dogecoin, a currency introduced in 2013 as a literal joke about a dog mom by software engineers, is ideal for kids who want to learn more about finances, Cuban said.

‘Dogecoin is less than a cent. “You can buy $ 1 or $ 10 and watch it all day,” Cuban told Forbes in January. He said he bought some for his son and they ‘look at it and discuss all the price movements of it and why it occurs. It’s fun and educational for him. ”

Last month, Tesla CEO Elon Musk pushed up the price of Dogecoin by claiming he had bought something for his baby boy, X Æ A-Xii.

“Bought Dogecoin for lil X so he can be a toddler,” Musk tweeted.

As of Thursday afternoon, Dogecoin was valued at just over 5 cents. This is against Bitcoin, the father of all cryptocurrencies that has driven around a valuation of $ 50,000 over the past few weeks.
