Marion Ramsey, ‘Police Academy’ and Broadway star, dies at 73

Ramsey’s entertainment career was born in Philadelphia and began on stage. She co-stars in Broadway shows, including productions of ‘Eubie!’ and “Grind,” and toured the country in the musical “Hello Dolly.”

Ramsey started her television career with a guest role in the hit series “The Jeffersons”, and was a regular in “Cos”, Bill Cosby’s sketch comedy series.

Marion Ramsey has in six of the "Police Academy" films.

Her most famous role was in 1984 in the movie “Police Academy” as Officer Hooks, whose soft spoken attitude was characterized by memorable outbursts. Ramsey starred in five additional “Police Academy” films in the 1980s.

She started the cartoon in the cartoon series “The Addams Family” from the early nineties, which was broadcast two seasons.

Ramsey was deeply committed to raising awareness of AIDS and gave her voice to charity and performed in ‘Divas Simply Singing’, an annual fundraising event.

Later in her TV and film career, she was in guest appearances in the adult swimming programs “Robot Chicken” and “Tim and Eric Awesome Show, Great Job!”

In 2015, she reunited with “Policy Academy” stars Steve Guttenberg and Michael Winslow in the Syfy camp film “Lavalantula” and his sequel “2 Lava 2 Lantula!” the following year. Her last active role was in the 2018 indie film “When I Sing.”

She is survived by her three brothers.
