Marion Ramsey, ‘Police Academy’ actress, dies at 73

Marion Ramsey, star of the stage and screen, has died. She was 73.

Ramsey’s management team Roger Paul Inc. confirmed the news in a statement obtained by Fox News.

The star died Thursday at her home in Los Angeles. The cause of death has not been determined, but she was recently ill, reports the Deadline.

“Marion took a friendly and penetrating light with her that immediately filled a room upon her arrival,” her management said in a statement to The Hollywood Reporter. “The eclipse of her light is already being felt by those who knew her well. We will miss her and always love her.”

The actress is best known for her portrayal of Sgt. Laverne Hooks in the “Police Academy” movies. She appears in the first six films of the franchise, but puts on the seventh episode and follows the television plays.

The star landed the role – known for her high-pitched voice – for ‘John Virgo: Playing for Laughs’ from 1993 and an episode of ‘Robot Chicken’ in 2006.

She recently appeared in the movie “When I Sing” in 2018.

Outside of Hollywood, Ramsey also had a career on Broadway and made her Ermengarde debut in “Hello, Dolly!”

She has appeared in a number of other musicals and a number of tour productions. It is also noteworthy that she played a role in the musical “Miss Moffat” alongside Bette Davis, who was famous and never made it to Broadway.

According to Deadline reports, Ramsey was born in Philadelphia, and according to IMDb, in 1976 she landed her first recognized role as a guest star on ‘The Jeffersons’.

She has also appeared in other sensational shows such as ‘MacGyver’, ‘The Addams Family’ and ‘The Nanny’.

Deadline reports that she was a passionate advocate for HIV / Aids awareness.

She is survived by three brothers.
