In a video posted on Instagram, Carey said she was a little excited and nervous about getting her first shot. But she took a breath, rolled up her sleeve, and let out one of her famous high notes as the needle went into her arm.
“Vaccine side effect: G6,” Carey wrote in the caption.
In conversation with her ten million fans, Carey made a nod to the state of the pandemic today compared to where it was a year ago. She referred to a video she posted with her children in March 2020, urging people to wash their hands properly as the pandemic has only just begun. “We’re still in this fight together,” Carey said before shooting her.
Carey is one of several celebrities who appeal to people to be vaccinated when they can. Dolly Parton also brought singing chops for her when she was shot and sang a vaccine-inspired version of “Jolene”.
While Carey did not say whether she was getting the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine, she said this shot was only part one, so keep an eye on the follow-up in three or four weeks.
