New orleans – Giving up has never been in the DNA of New Orleans the cancellation of Mardi Gras parades due to the pandemic that did not kill an old tradition, it started a new one: Yardi Gras.
This is a parade where the spectators are on the move and houses are decorated with decor. “As he gets older, I want to look back and show him how Mardi Gras was in quarantine,” said Alyssa Hicks, a mother.
Yardi Gras started as a social joke. Megan Boudreaux tweeted that she would make a raft of her house without parades. About 3,000 homes in New Orleans are now part of an immobile patio.
“I’m definitely overwhelmed by how responsive it was,” Boudreaux said.
In First Street, it’s like shark week – they sink their teeth into it. At the end of the street, neighbors honor a local favorite, the Cafe Du Monde beignet.
“It’s going to be fun in New Orleans, no matter what,” a resident said.
To help the community, some homeowners have hired artists who are not working or rented props from heavy companies. Some residents hope that the decorated houses will become a tradition.
From the wild to the whimsical, the stagnant parade brought neighbors together, turning Mardi Gras into a literal house party and finding a way to make the good times roll.
