The comedy work is just a little funnier today, as they mourn the passing of writer Marc Wilmore at the age of 57.

Wilmore’s brother, comedian and Larry Wilmore, presenter of The Nightly Show, confirmed his brother’s death on Twitter Sunday night.

The TV writer has transitioned from COVID-19, plus other health issues he has suffered from over the past few years.

“My dear dear brother, Marc Edward Wilmore, passed away last night while battling COVID and other conditions that have hurt him for years,” Larry said of his brother.

‘My brother was the friendliest, gentlest, funniest lion of an angel I have ever known. I love your brother, ‘Larry concludes.

Marc and Larry were two of five siblings who grew up in San Bernadino County, California in the 1960s.

Marc studied at California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, before embarking on his television writing career in the 1990s.

He began his writing career on the television adaptation of Harry and the Henderson before moving on to the influential Fox comedy series In Living Color.

After his magazine In Living Color, he co-wrote The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and then The PJs before joining The Simpsons in 2002.

He wrote twelve episodes of Fox’s long animated series between 2002 and 2015.

Wilmore won a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Animation Program for his work as a producer on Eternal Moonshine of the Simpsons Mind.

After finishing his time at The Simpsons, he went to work as a writer and producer at F is for Family in 2017.

Wilmore was honored by writer Michael Price, with whom he worked on three different TV shows during his career.

“Another giant talent that was taken too soon,” Price began in his tweet tribute to his co-author.

‘I’ve had the privilege of working with Marc Wilmore on three shows (PJs, Simpsons, FIFF) over the last 23 years, and he was the funniest person in every room. And a wonderful man. He is irreplaceable. Rest in peace, my friend, ‘he concluded.
