Maple Leafs, Bruins, Rangers, Kings, Red Wings, Penguins

In our last NHL rumors set out before the NHL deadline, we are going to hit with a number of quick hits as the final hours diminish. Included are talks about the Toronto Maple Leafs, New York Rangers, Boston Bruins, Buffalo Sabers, Detroit Red Wings, Dallas Stars, Anaheim Ducks and Los Angeles Kings.

Sabers make hall trade official

It broke late Sunday night, but the Buffalo Sabers made the Taylor Hall trade official Monday morning. “We acquired forward Anders Bjork and a second round in the NHL draft in 2021 from the Boston Bruins in exchange for forwards Taylor Hall and Curtis Lazar.”

David Pagnotta writes: Hall has a movement without movement. Was told the New York Islanders and Washington Capitals are interested and want to run yesterday. It does not sound like the Edmonton Oilers really ever were part of the discussion, despite the speculation.

The setback for the Sabers, who only select a second round, is not necessarily fair. Fewer teams were interested. Part of that was because of the cap, and part of it was that Hall had such a bad season and that teams that were not really part of the trade conversation simply looked at other players as a priority. There was no one there who was willing to pick a first round.

It also does not look like the Sabers will trade target writer Linus Ullmark.

Boston Bruins

Dreger said at the TSN Trade Center that Bruins was on Hall early in the process, but other teams jumped in later in the process. But it was the Bruins who offered the best buy, and Hall decided that the Bruins were the team. Hall had a no-move clause, so he has a great deal of control in the trading process.

Stars want to keep team together

Frank Seravalli reported that there may not be an attempt to send defender Jamie Oleksiak out of Dallas. The Stars are interested in keeping the team together. There are also concerns about the NHL Expansion Draft for the Stars, so they may not be a busy team on Monday.

If Oleksiak is not moved, Dmitry Kulikov of the New Jersey Devils and Michael Del Zotto of the Columbus Blue Jackets could be players to watch.

Anaheim Ducks

Andy Strickland reports: “Anaheim hears for a 1st Plus for both Rickard Rakell and Josh Manson. Would consider a prospect a first, but would like two. ‘

Detroit Red Wings

As according to David Pagnotta of the fourth period:

A team to watch today: Detroit. I hear they are open to business and have called guys like Anthony Mantha (as we reported earlier) and Tyler Bertuzzi, among others. In addition, they have pending UFAs they want to relocate: Steel, Helmet, Glendening, Bernier. ”

Blue jackets can sign Foligno again in the off-season

Aaron Portzline from The Athletic reports that the chances are high that Nick Foligno will sign with Columbus Blue Jackets again this summer. Luke Fox of Sportsnet agrees and says: “Nick Foligno, the Maple Leafs forward, said that the window is still open for the signing of the Blue Jackets this season. He is now only focusing on the Maple Leafs and playoff games.”

Washington Capitals

Kevin Weeks writes“I can see Bernier, given circumstances, possibly going to the capitals to provide extra veteran assistance to their team and two young goalkeepers.” This comes after the news that Henrik Lundqvist’s return was hit this week. There are rumors that the Capitals are looking for a goalkeeper for a playoff game since the trade talks began. It has not changed.

Maple Leafs Goaltending and Defense

The fact that the Maple Leafs landed David Rittich via trade on Sunday indicates that the Leafs did not have confidence in the health of Frederik Andersen after the post-season. Though he was healthy, he did not play as well as Jack Campbell. As such, GM Kyle Dubas feels the need to upgrade.

This is the Goalending assurance of Maple Leafs and it is not a sign that the Leafs will try to move him before the deadline, or that another team will try to get him. His cap shot will not count if he does not return before the playoffs, so it is not a big deal for the Leafs.

What the Maple Leafs can do differently, Michael Augello reports: “Darren Dreger said the targets for Toronto Maple Leafs potential depth defenders include Jamie Oleksiak, Nikita Zadorov, Michael Del Zotto and Erik Gudbranson.”

New York Rangers

Like the San Jose Sharks and Detroit Red Wings, the Rangers are a team willing to act as a broker for an organization that wants to make a move without a hood. Darren Dreger reported:

Teams were not ashamed to buy their hood space. NJD, Det and SJ are all being used as brokers to rectify issues so far. The NYR has about $ 9 million in space and is one of the clubs willing to engage in financially complex operations as well.

Los Angeles Kings

Pierre LeBrun reports that it could be a quiet deadline, as GMs were willing to conduct really long interviews with the Trade Center panel on that deadline. One team that can move, though, is the Los Angeles Kings. He writes: ‘The discussions took place late at night between the Kings and Alex Iafallo’s camp. No resolution yet this morning. It will be interesting to see where it goes … ”

He later updated the story to say that the Kings and Iafallo are closing the gap in contract talks.

Penguins and Jeff Carter

LeBrun notes: “Some of the details in the draft picks involved in the Jeff Carter deal: the third round could become a second choice if the Penguins reach the cup final and Carter plays at least 50 percent of the games.”

Carter has another year on his current contract at $ 5.3 million and definitely past his best time. The Kings will retain some salary, but it’s an interesting deal from the Penguins perspective.
