Manager charged with DWI after crashing into steep water :: WRAL.com

A woman crashed over the barrier near the intersection of Pleasant Grove Church Road and Airport Boulevard. Her car rolled down the steep embankment and sank into the water.

The accident happened early Friday morning about a mile from the RDU airport.

According to a Morrisville Fire Rescue officer, the woman was driving straight through the intersection and down the bank, which was still slippery and muddy from rain.

When officials arrived there, she tried to climb ashore but struggled to get up there due to the mud and her shoes.

Officials said she sustained only minor injuries and that she was fine. However, she was charged with DWI, reckless driving and driving a suspended license.

Around 5 a.m., the driver’s car lights could still be seen in the dark shore. Within half an hour, teams pulled the car out of the creek.
