HOUSTON A man wanted in connection with the shooting of a deputy in northern Harris County was arrested Tuesday night.
The shooting was reported around 5:50 p.m. in the vicinity of Forestburg and Veterans Memorial Drive.
Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said the man believed to be the gunman, identified as 37-year-old Moises Martinez, had been arrested after a massive chase that lasted more than three hours.
More than a dozen law enforcement vehicles were at the scene as dozens of officers and deputies searched the area.
Gonzalez said the shooting happened when two deputies responded to a report from a suspicious person in the neighborhood. According to him, a man pulled out a gun and started shooting at them. He said one of the deputies was hit several times and that the other one could shoot again. He said the man fled the scene.
According to the sheriff, the wounded deputy, whom he identified only as 35-year-old deputy Barragan, sustained injuries to his hands, cheek and back. Gonzalez said Barragan is listed in a stable condition and is expected to be in order.
Gonzalez said the injured deputy had been with the sheriff for 18 months, but worked for another agency for eight years before becoming a deputy in Harris County.
The sheriff said he believed Martinez had two warrants during the shooting.
