There were mixed feelings when it was announced in late February that JJ Abrams was releasing a Superman rerun for Warner Bros. manufacture. Sure, a new Supes movie is exciting, but fans were upset about the implication that Henry Cavill was done as the last son of Krypton. Yet the incoming release of Zack Snyder’s Justice League aroused the Snyder verses and therefore DCEU lovers hold out the hope that the HBO Max movie to a Man of Steel 2.
In fact, it’s allegedly something on the map. Geekosity scooter Mikey Sutton said sources told WB that he was considering making another Superman movie with Cavill’s Kal-El. However, there is no way theaters like Robert Pattinson’s will run The Batman, Abrams’ Supes is the new number one version of the hero. As Justice League is successful, however, then a Man of steel sequel can eventually happen as a streaming exclusive.
This is the point that Sutton emphasizes as the only way MoS2 will come from the ground is if JL seems to be as big a hit as the studio wants it to be. As we all know, WB just relieved the director after the passionate social media campaign #ReleaseTheSnyderCut. They then hope it will translate into the four-hour-long email that breaks the internet when it drops in a few weeks. And if that’s the case, we’ll probably hear more about Cavill re-enacting another solo film.
The idea of a Superman movie that would be made for streaming, of course, would not have been unthinkable too long ago, but Warner Bros. clearly doing everything in their power to brand HBO Max as an essential service after their groundbreaking step to release. all their films simultaneously in theaters and online. Add as a gamble Justice League work, you can bet they will follow it up with more.
Of course, other tipsters say otherwise, with insider Daniel Richtman noting that Cavill is currently only offered cameos and not a Man of Steel 2. But we need to have a much better idea of what’s going to happen to the Big Blue Boy Scout once Justice League touch later this month.
