A man accused of harassing and assaulting an Asian woman in New York this week was released without bail on Friday morning and under supervision less than 24 hours after his arrest, the Queens District Attorney’s Office said on Friday. .
Patrick Mateo, 47, was arrested in Queens at 08:10 on Thursday morning after a video of him allegedly punched a 53-year-old Asian woman on Tuesday.

A 52-year-old female victim reported to police that she was waiting online at a bakery when an unknown person involved her in an oral dispute, a NYPD spokesman told Fox News. ‘The individual pushed the victim and [caused] her to strike her head against an object. ‘
The woman was transported by EMS to Booth Memorial Hospital, where she received 10 stitches for a blister on her forehead.

According to the Queens District Attorney’s Office, Mateo was released on Friday morning around 3 a.m. ET under his own admission.
He does not have to post bail because he is charged with assault in the third grade, which is a class A offense.
Mateo is due to appear in court on April 21 for his charges. His lawyer declined to comment Friday because it is a public case.
Videos of the incident went viral on the internet, thanks in part to actress Olivia Munn, who is friends with the victim’s son.
Hate crimes against Asian individuals have increased by 1,900% in New York in recent years, according to NYPD data, and some people attribute the increase to the coronavirus pandemic.
