NEW YORK (AP) – One of the few copies of the comic book that Superman introduced to the world has been sold for a super-sized, record price.

The release of Action Comics # 1 was $ 3.25 million in a private sale, ComicConnect.com, an online auction and shipping company, announced Tuesday.

It set the previous record for the comic, which was set in 2014 for an auction of another copy for just over $ 3.2 million.

The comic strip, published in 1938, “is really the beginning of the superhero genre,” said Vincent Zurzolo, chief operating officer of ComicConnect.com.

It told readers about the origins of Superman, how he came to earth from another planet and passed through Clark Kent.

The seller of this particular issue purchased the comic in 2018 for just over $ 2 million.

According to Zurzolo, although hundreds of thousands of copies were initially published, about 100 exist today, and in varying circumstances. He said that this specimen is one of the best preserved.

“There’s no comic book you can rate higher than Action Comics # 1 in terms of a comic book,” he said.
