Nevertheless, Biden’s overall approval stands at 61% in the new national poll, with 38% rejecting his performance so far as president.

The influx of migrants crossing the country’s southern border with Mexico has jumped since Biden’s inauguration on January 20. Republicans have repeatedly voiced the president on the issue, blaming him for what the White House refuses to call a “crisis.”

Customs and Border Protection (CBP) is on track to meet more than 171,000 migrants in March alone, two sources familiar with internal CBP data told Fox News – a dramatic increase over last year’s number and the latest sign that the crisis in the southern border is not subsiding. The number, based on preliminary data and not yet finalized, will be a sharp increase in numbers of the already high 100,441 migrants encountered in February – and the approximately 34,000 migrants encountered in March last year.

According to the survey, nearly 9 out of 10 Republicans disapprove of the way the president handles border security and immigration, with more than 6 out of ten independents giving Biden a thumbs up on the two issues. Nearly three-quarters of Democrats say they approve of the president’s handling of both issues.

Four out of ten people surveyed say they did not like the way Biden’s handling the unaccompanied children’s uprising on the country’s southern border, with 24% approving and 35% saying they did not or approve. CBP plans to reach as many as 184,000 unaccompanied children, according to sources, in the 2021 budget year.

The poll highlights that most Americans think that reunification of parents and children separated at the border and safe treatment of these unaccompanied children should be the top priorities for the federal government. Just over half (53%) believe that increased security at the US-Mexico border should be a major concern for Biden’s immigration agenda. Other immigration issues – including deportation, guest worker visas and providing a path to citizenship – are less important.

While Biden’s figures on border security and immigration are well underway, he stands at 73% approval and 26% disapproval on dealing with the coronavirus pandemic, 62% -36% on health care, 60% -43% on the economy and 55% -43% on foreign policy.
