DUBLIN, January 9 (Reuters) – Firefighters have brought a major fire under control in the southern Irish port of Cork and no casualties have been reported. on Saturday.

The fire started in a grain store at a deepwater file used for freight services, the port authority said shortly after 09:30 GMT and urged locals to keep all doors and windows closed and stay indoors.

It was said for just over an hour that the fire was under control.

“Emergency services remain on the premises to monitor the area. “Ship operations in Ringaskiddy (Deepwater Berth) have been suspended,” the port authority said on Twitter.

Images posted by locals on social media showed a large cloud of black smoke coming from the harbor.

Ferry companies have expanded direct freight services between Ireland and France in response to demand for an alternative route to the British ‘agricultural bridge’ used by around 3,000 trucks each week to transport goods to and from mainland Europe.
