Major Burns, Kendall Milton deliver big hits

ATHENS – Kirby Smart likes the energy and enthusiasm in Scrimmage Two, even though the performance was not always there in the midst of wet and rainy conditions.

Smart did not elaborate much on what happened between the fences in Sanford Stadium during a mostly closed practice attended by select boosters and players’ parents.

The action was intense and physical, with a big hit from Major Burns on tight end Brock Bowers. To his credit, Bowers apparently managed to hang on to football.

It was a day when the defensive line mostly dominated the line, according to those who gave eyewitness accounts.

The offense also had its physical moments.

Kendall Milton goes on to make a play for the opening work, sending a defender at the end of a 20-yard run.

Smart noted that Milton was also executed in the short-yard game.

“I thought Kendall (Milton) did a really good job today with some physical runs,” Smart said. “We had some third-and-short shorts or fourth-and-short shorts that he could transform into a big back and do a few things.”

James Cook also had a 25-year run, and Demetris Robertson returned a point for an attack, according to attendees.

Running Daijun Edwards also had some strong runs and still remains an option.

Quarterback JT Daniels had success with Justin Robinson once the team moved to the indoor facility for the conclusion of the investigation.

Carson Beck and Brock Vandagriff both achieved success during the outdoor practice.

According to spectators, Beck hit Arian Smith with a 38-yard pass that was perfectly thrown.

Vandagriff had an attack on Kurt Knisely and showed strong running ability.

Georgia returns Tuesday to practice with the annual G-Day Game scheduled for next Saturday at Sanford Stadium.

Smart said the team has done a lot of situational work in Scrimmage Two that will help them be prepared for game actions.

“(We worked on it) Second-and-10, third down, end of scenarios, three or four different clock management situations,” Smrt said. ‘We worked 1:50 no timeouts if you have to score, a 1:50 no timeouts and we need to get a first discount to win the match, which happens a lot in our conference.

“So, we did a lot of game simulations and the end of the game scenarios besides our typical scratches on the field move.”
