There are still 156 cases of coronavirus reported across the country and no new deaths, Maine health officials said Sunday.
The number of coronavirus cases diagnosed across the country over the past 14 days is 5,765. This is an estimate of the current number of active cases in the state, as the Maine CDC no longer detects recovery for all patients. It is 5,949 lower on Saturday.
This was the smallest daily increase in coronavirus cases the state has seen since November 15, when 149 cases were reported. This is because Maine has seen a steady decline in daily growth in confirmed virus transmission, a trend that is reflected nationwide.
Sunday’s report remains well above the level Maine saw before the increase in virus transmission that began in late October.
The death toll in the country still remains 590. It was the first time last week when Maine did not record at least one death.
According to Sunday’s report, the total number of cases of coronavirus in Maine is 39,324, according to the Maine Center for Disease Control and Prevention. It is higher than 39,168 on Saturday.
Of these, 31,689 were positively confirmed, while 7,635 were classified as ‘probable cases’, the CDC reported in Maine.
The new case rate across Sunday was 1.17 cases per 10,000 residents, and the total case rate was 293.81.
Maine’s average of seven days for new cases of coronavirus is 363, lower than 367.3 a day ago, compared to 455.1 a week ago and lower than 479 a month ago. This rate has been declining steadily since January 14, when it peaked at 625.6.
Most cases were detected in Mainers in their 20s, while Mainers older than 80 years account for the most deaths. More cases and deaths were recorded in women than men. Use the interactive image below for a complete breakdown of age and gender demographics of cases, hospitalizations, and deaths.
So far, 1,390 Mainers have been hospitalized at some point with COVID-19, the disease caused by the new coronavirus. Of these, 160 Mainers are currently hospitalized, with 52 in critical care and 29 in ventilators. Out of 391 critical care beds, 95 are currently available. Meanwhile, 224 out of 320 fans are available. There are currently 443 alternative fans available.
The total hospitalization rate across the country on Sunday was 10.39 patients per 10,000 inhabitants.
