Maine CDC chief says state in the midst of syndrome

AUGUSTA, Maine (WABI) – Maine finds itself in the midst of a syndrome that could be the cause of an increase in coronavirus cases.

This is according to the head of the Maine CDC.

Dr. Nirav Shah explains that these are two parallel epidemics that may or may not be related.

The state preferred the vaccination of older people.

However, the group of people is not largely in interaction with the younger population of the state.

‘The fact that they have been vaccinated does not help the transmission among younger Mainers who are now only increasing their vaccination numbers. ‘If you associate this kind of syndromic phenomenon with more contagious variants, that’s my hypothesis at the moment why our numbers are high and maybe even stay high and maybe even go higher,’ ‘says Shah, director of CDC in Maine.

Shah said testing also plays a role in the number of cases.

On the latest report, Maine tested about 870 people per 100,000.

He says these numbers are among the best in the world.
