
(CNN Español) – A magnitude 7.1 seismic record was recorded in Antarctica on Monday, although no reports were issued at the time of the victims, provoking the evacuation of people in the Antarctic region, confirmed by Chilean authorities.
The National Emergency Office (Onemi) informs in Twitter messages that the phenomenon is registered 216 kilometers northwest of Base O’Higgins and that solicitaba “abandon the Antarctic Territorial Zone”, called a tsunami alert.

In another publication, the Onemi indicates that an evacuation message received by people in real time was only for the area of the antarctic base.

The Office reiterated that no evacuation had been declared for the cost at the national level, but only applied for an area zone in the Antarctic Territory.
For its part, the Air Force of Chile posted on Twitter that “in anticipation of the tsunami alert, a preventive evacuation was carried out at the Antarctic Air Base”.
“Our staff will be located in a safety and innovation facility and the infrastructure will be monitored,” he said.
