Magic: The Gathering’s onslaught on Diablo will be playable in March

Magic: legends is an upcoming free-to-play action RPG, and the game’s PC open beta launches on March 23rd. Developer Cryptic Studios has shared a new video featuring the game’s deckbuilding element, inspired by the source material of Magic: The Gathering.

While Magic: legends is in the same genre as the Diablo titles, Magic: The Gathering is especially known as a competitive card game where players build decks and fight opponents. That element continues in Legends, and the game is based on the history of the card game.

Each deck consists of 12 spells, four of which are available at a time. New spells run randomly as the player uses the tools at their disposal, creating a system where players can determine what specialization and tactics they want to follow, while still having elements beyond their control in an instant to a battle.

Players familiar with Magic: The Gathering will recognize the five magical schools: white, red, blue, black, green. Green focuses on natural magic, such as summoning massive creatures and controlling the world around you, while Black deals with necromantic magic and deadly curses.

There are also player classes, and classes are in line with a school of magic, but not for those affinities. For example, a blue magic class can continue to build a red / green hybrid deck without worrying about incompatibility.

The game is developed by Cryptic Studios and published by Perfect World Entertainment. Magic: legends launches later in 2021 on PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One. Magic also comes to Netflix as an animated series.
