Machamp
Fight

After six generations of Pokémon, Machamp finally gets a meta-analysis ahead of Community Day this month.

Machamp was and probably always will be a great choice for anything Pokémon Go. Ideal for taking down gyms, it’s ideal for a lot of raids and legendary raids, and it’s also a great choice in all Go Battle leagues.

On the community day of January, Machop appeared with the highly coveted bonus of TRIPLE stardust. If you developed a Machoke during Community Day, you received a Machamp with the Refund Payback, a lot of power Dark type of move. It offers incredible neutral damage and coverage at troublesome Ghost and Psychic types that give Machamp trouble in battles.

The only other type of fight that gives Machamp a chance to make money is Conkeldurr. As for movepool, however, Machamp has the better coverage.

  • Machop is currently quite rare in wildlife outside of Community Day. It’s an old generation 1 pokemon and the new generation Pokémon dominates the current spawn.
  • Machop is currently incubating eggs from 5 km
  • Machop develops in Machoke for 25 sweets.
  • Machoke develops in Machamp for 100 sweets or free if traded.
  • Due to the trading feature of Machoke evolution, a lucky Machoke will save you a lot of sweets if you are looking for the perfect or high IV maximum Machamp XL.

Blink Machop, Machoke and Machamp

Let’s take a look at Machamp and its usefulness in Pokemon Go.

Statistics

Machamp
Fight

Level 50 CP 3455
ATK 234 DEF 159 PK 207
Weak om Strong against
Psychic Fly Fairy Rock Steel Rock Ice Dark

These stats clearly show that Machamp is a force to be reckoned with in many good attacks and solid defense stats.

Again, while Conkeldurr has better stats, Machamp has access to a much better move set, which we will touch on below. After 6 generations, Machamp is still the most relevant Fight Pokémon type.

Moveset analysis

Machamp can learn these moves in Pokémon Go:

Fast movements Charged Moves
  • Teller Fight
  • Bullet Punch Steel
  • Karate Chop * Fight
  • Cross cap Fight
  • Dynamic punch Fight
  • Heavy Slam Steel
  • Close battle Fight
  • Rock Slide Rock
  • Stone Edge * Rock
  • Submission * Fight
  • Refund * Dark
  • Return * Normal
  • Frustration * Normal

* Heritage movement

I think this is the longest list of moves I have made for a guide for one Pokémon to date. Obviously you have a lot of options, and that makes Machamp pretty versatile.

In most, if not all cases, you will always work against your quick move, but Bullet Punch is also a good choice for nipple. Karate Chop technically has the best energy boost, but Counter is only more efficient (offers more damage than the energy gained by Karate Chop).

Let us now talk about the levies. As you can see, Machamp has access to many different Fight type of attacks. The best is a close fight against damage and Cross Chop for shield bait in PVP and Dynamic Punch is the best in raids and gym fights. Do not use submission at all.

It also has access to the best Rock type of attacks in the game, Stone Edge and Rock Slide. Stone Edge costs you an Elite ChargeTM if you do not have one with the legacy move. Rock Slide is better in PvE and is also preferred in PvP. Stone Edge is technically stronger in PvP, but requires more energy.

Heavy Slam is good Steel type move, but is not a common choice. It does provide cover for fairies, but you probably won’t survive long enough to use it in PvP. There are better steels if you need a strong steel for PvE.

Finally, Machamp is learning Payback this month during a community day, a new step and now the strongest Dark type of attack. This is likely to upset some metas in PvP and could possibly be decent in PvE as well (depending on the specific Pokémon you are fighting) as there are not very strong dark types to attack except Tyranitar. Reimbursement will be extra helpful in gym fights, as people regularly deploy psychics to specifically counter Machamp. Now you have a super-effective step to eradicate the psychic types in red and yellow gyms.

What is the best movement set for Machamp?

The best moving set will depend on whether you are struggling with gyms, raids or other coaches. It is up to you to choose a movement set that best suits your playing style, but you can see the most common ones below based on the play mode.

PvP:

  • Counter with Refund and Rock Slide
  • Counter with Cross Chop / Close Combat and Rock Slide / Payback

PvE:

  • Counter with Dynamic Punch and Payback

Performance in PvE

In meta where powerful Dark, Steel, Rock, en Ice type Pokémon are common in raids, Machamp is often a very common choice in raids. It is actually number 1 for many legendary and probably Machamp has therefore already equaled. If you’ve new, you’ve had the perfect opportunity to create a Payback Machamp without using an Elite chargeTM on one you’ve already turned on. This is likely to remain relevant for all future releases unless attacks are changed. Fighting is a very effective offensive type, especially since Pokémon of dark, steel and rock are usually very tough.

Normal types dominate the gym battle scene, such as Chansey and Snorlax. Therefore, Machamp has always been a common Pokémon to use to quickly take down opposing gyms. With the launch of Payback, Machamp can take out the hassle Psychic types that Machamp also quickly resists, making gym fights so much easier.

If you do not have a powered Machamp, we would strongly recommend that you take advantage of the January Community Day to make one. Trade with a friend to make generation and evolution much cheaper. Given its movement set and typing, Machamp is extremely useful and adjustable in the PvE game.

Performance in PvP

Big league

Machamp is doing very well in the big league. It’s really good against general defense tanks, including Umbreon, Bastiodon, Steelix, Snorlax, Galarian Stunfisk and even Alolan Marowak. It has an impressive victory rate of 73.1% for its shade and regular form. This is for the 1 shield scenario. Shadow Machamp is in 14th place in the open big league.

The launch of Payback lowers the profit rate to 69.5% when linked to Cross Chop and to 59.4% with Rock Slide and Payback.

The best move is to be Counter, Cross Chop and Rock Slide according to the winning rate of pvpoke.com.

Machamp is really a good choice for Great League and I want to encourage you to make one and look for a Machop with good PvP IVs. Top 5 PvP IVs by IV Stadium are as follows:

Ultra League

Machamp is also a good choice in Ultra League. According to pvpoke.com in the 1-shield simulation, this is a 72.6% win rate and ranks 44th in the open Ultra League. It is in 6th place in the Premier Ultra League. Important victories in ultra league are against Registeel, Swampert, Melmetal, Obstagoon, Escavalier, Magnezone and Lapras. It will also tear down some potential XL pokemon like Abomasnow, Drifblim, Dewgong, Umbreon and Galarian Stunfisk.

The new community movement, Payback, may be more relevant in the Ultra meta and still offers a strong profit percentage of 69.8%. Rock Slide is mainly for covering Fly type of weakness, but leaflets are not as common in Ultra League, so Payback is perhaps the best choice for this league.

Check out these top 5 PvP IVs as you create your Machamp and reach 2500 cp at about 31 levels:

Champions League

Machamp XL has a similar role in the Champions League, with a winning rate of 83.5% in the Open Champions League. It is the 43rd place in the open space and the first place in Premier. The Shadow shape is technically better, but the probability that it is 100% shaded is very rare and also very expensive. Machamp can win against Dragonite, Gyarados, Snorlax, Swampert and Rhyperior, Mamoswine, Excadrill and Magnezone.

The new move, Payback, increases its winning rate to 86.3%. However, you lose your winning matches against Dragonite and other types of flies. It depends on your team how you play Machamp XL, as there are multiple movement sets in this meta. Obviously, at level 50 you want to get as close to 100% IVs as possible. Catch as many Machop as possible to get as many XL candy as possible.

Closure

Machamp is an animal and if you do not have one yet, you definitely want to make an animal as soon as possible. You may need to make two, one with the new community day and one with Rock Slide.

Do a happy trade with a friend on a shiny Machop this community day and call it the hulk because you will use it in all facets of the game. Your stardust is not wasted on this big guy.
