Mac Jones, Alabama, is the best QB by Senior Bowl teammates

After a strong week of practice in Mobile, Alabama’s quarterback Mac Jones is named the leading quarterback in the U.S. Senior Bowl team. The award was voted on by members of the secondary party that Jones encountered in practice at Hancock Whitney Stadium during the week.

The other backs on the American team coached by the Carolina Panthers‘coaching staff, are Kellen Mond (Texas A&M) and Jamie Newman (Wake Forest).

Jones rolled his ankle during Thursday’s practice and his availability for Saturday’s game is unclear. But before Jones sustained the injury, he had a productive week. Several other quarterbacks have used previous Senior Bowl practices to cement or boost their draw, and according to ESPN insider Field Yates, “Mac Jones has little doubt this week.”

“I was really impressed with who he is,” Carolina Panthers coach Matt Rhule said.

‘I’m impressed with his character, his moxie and his swag. I mean, he has everything. You can see why his teammates follow him. He has an excellent way of working with other people. He was a very productive quarterback, and he showed a lot of things he can do this week. He’s really smart. He is accurate. He can move his feet and slip into the bag. If I get to know him, I can see why everyone amazes him and why he achieved the success. ‘

Whether Jones will play in Saturday’s game remains to be seen, but offensive linebacker Landon Dickerson (knee), wide receiver DeVonta Smith (finger) and runway Najee Harris (ankle) have already been ruled out. Former Alabama players who are expected to fit in include offensive lineouts Deonte Brown and Alex Leatherwood and longtime snapper Thomas Fletcher.

Reese’s Senior Bowl of 2021 begins at 1:00 p.m. CT and is broadcast on the NFL network.
