The pet, Boncuk (Bon-DJUK), which means kraal, followed the ambulance that transported its owner, Cemal Senturk, to the hospital in the city of Trabzon in the Black Sea on 14 January. She then visited the facility daily, private news reported the agency DHA on Wednesday.
Senturk’s daughter, Aynur Egeli, said she would take Boncuk home, but the dog would repeatedly run away and return to the hospital.
The hospital’s security guard, Muhammet Akdeniz, told DHA: “She comes around 9am every day and waits until it gets dark. She does not go in.”
“When the door opens, she sticks her head in,” he said.
On Wednesday, Boncuk was finally reunited with Senturk when he was pushed outside in a wheelchair for a brief encounter with his dog.
“She’s very used to me. And I miss her constantly, too,” he told DHA.
Senturk was discharged from the hospital later Wednesday and returned home with Boncuk.
