The Louisiana Department of Health has reported 2,533 more confirmed cases of coronavirus and another 92 confirmed deaths.
Friday’s death toll is the second highest total reported in a single day in the state. The only day with a higher total is April 14, when 129 deaths were reported.
The number of hospitalizations increased by 36, and the number of patients requiring ventilators increased by 1.
According to the agency’s dashboard, there are also 34,989 total “probable” cases of coronavirus in Louisiana.

- Total confirmed cases: 306,442

- Total confirmed deaths: 7,411
- Currently in hospital: 2069
- Currently on fans: 220
- Vaccination series starts: 74 517 (updated twice a week)

- Presumably recycled: 280,373 from January 4 (updated weekly)
Note: The staff of the Advocate and The Times-Picayune calculate the daily number of cases and the confirmed deaths increase based on the difference between the total number of today and yesterday’s confirmed cases of coronavirus and deaths. The Louisiana Department of Health is releasing a daily number of cases on its dashboard that include possible cases, as indicated by a positive antigen test. The number of cases may differ from the one listed here.

Louisiana will begin opening Phase 1 again on May 15-16 and then move to Phase 2 on June 5, Louis Bel Edwards, Louis Bel. Edward’s Phase 2 restrictions in Louisiana extended twice in August before moving the state to Phase 3 on September 11th. the state returns to an adjusted phase 2 by the end of November.
