Some Los Angeles residents have to wear masks in their own homes as COVID-19 cases climb at a worrying rate, health officials said.
The director of public health in Los Angeles County, dr. Barbara Ferrer, urged everyone living with someone more vulnerable to the virus on Monday to hide themselves at home, the KABC news station reported.
‘Because there is so much spread, we recommend that people wear their face masks while they are indoors. It will add a layer of protection as we get through this boom, ‘Ferrer told a news conference.
Ferrer said the additional precaution is especially recommended for essential workers or someone leaving their homes to carry out the necessary assignments.
“We recommend that you cover your face if you are a worker who leaves every day or is actually someone who has to perform the essential tasks in your family,” Ferrer said.
The latest guidelines come because the province has become one of the worst regions.
In Los Angeles, about 10 people test positive for the virus every minute, reports KABC.
Ferrer said the province “is rapidly increasing our pace to reach the bleak milestone of 1 million cases.”
“The devastating effects on our families and local hospitals as a result of this boom are the worst disaster our country has experienced in decades,” she said.
