Los Angeles County residents receiving a COVID-19 vaccination can add a digital record of their vaccination to the Apple Wallet app, reports Bloomberg.
The country is working with Healthvana to add the vaccination voucher to the Wallet app on the iPhone. Healthvana is a patient platform that healthcare providers can use to deliver COVID-19 test results to patients.
The vaccination record helps to ensure that those who have been vaccinated receive their second shot in the two-dose procedure, and in the future, Bloomberg speculates that it could be used as proof of vaccination to gain access to flights, concerts and more.
For now, the Wallet Vaccination Record will warn people who have had their first shot about their second appointment to make sure every person is fully vaccinated.
“We’re really worried. We really want people to come back for the second dose,” said Claire Jarashow, director of LA’s disease control against vaccine. Bloomberg. “We just do not have the ability to make hundreds of medical record requests to find people’s first doses and when to get their second.”
Immunization is also detected in registers and those who are vaccinated receive a paper card, but the card is easily lost, making the Wallet app a permanent proof.
The province plans to send data to Healthvana every night with information stored on Amazon Web Services’ HIPAA servers. Jarashow tells Bloomberg that it is as ‘safe as we can make it’ and that she will ‘feel comfortable using it’.
On Dec. 22, Los Angeles administered at least 38,850 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine to health care providers, residents of long-term care facilities and paramedics.
