Los Angeles Dodgers’ Cody Bellinger has hairline fracture in left fibula

A recent scan revealed that Cody Bellinger had a hairline fracture in his left fibula, Dave Roberts, manager of the Los Angeles Dodgers, said Friday.

Bellinger has been out since April 5 with what was originally diagnosed as a bruised calf. According to Roberts, the latest development ‘did not really change the route of its timetable’, but did not want to speculate on a possible return date.

Roberts had earlier told MLB Network that Bellinger might return in a week or two.

“I can comfortably say it’s not a day-to-day thing,” Roberts told reporters ahead of the start of a weekend series against rival San Diego Padres. “We can just put it on the fire, have Cody do his rehab and hopefully join us soon.”

Bellinger suffered the injury when Oakland Athletics coach Reymin Guduan stepped on his leg in a race to first base in the ninth innings of a final victory by the Dodgers. Bellinger was limping off the field, but the initial tests showed no structural damage.

Roberts earlier this week expressed encouragement about Bellinger’s progress, but said he had recently been ‘flat’ and followed up on follow-up tests.

The course of Bellinger’s rehabilitation, which includes hitting and throwing, will not change due to the hairline break, Roberts said, adding: ‘He just does a daily exercise and does everything he can to get to us as soon as possible to close. ‘
