Trump’s accusation against accusation is out. Bannon apparently encourages him to go to the Senate himself.
People familiar with the situation confirmed to CNN and The New York Times that five attorneys who were willing to defend former President Donald Trump in his upcoming Senate trial have left his legal team. Butch Bowers and Deborah Barbier, who are expected to be two of the lead attorneys, are out, as are Josh Howard, Johnny Gasser and Greg Harris. No other attorneys have announced they were involved in the case, so it appears Trump is defenseless for the time being. The lawyers apparently left due to a disagreement over legal strategy. Trump wants to believe that he should place his unfounded allegations of widespread voter fraud in last year’s presidential election, rather than focus on whether the conviction of a former president after he stepped down is constitutional, an argument that apparently consensus among Republicans is and the reason why he ‘I will probably be acquitted. Bowers, a source said, had no chemistry with Trump and the decision to leave was allegedly mutual. It is unclear where Trump will go from here – his personal lawyer Rudy Giuliani allegedly wants to file the case, but he is a potential witness in the trial because he spoke during the protest prior to the deadly Capitol riot. Trump is accused of it. that he incited, and according to the Times. “Almost all” Trump’s advisers blame Giuliani for the accusation in the first place. Since GOP senators have indicated they will not vote for conviction, some wonder why Trump would make any effort to spend on lawyers at this point.
