Los Angeles Angels get Dexter Fowler in the trade with St. Louis Cardinals

ANAHEIM, California – The Los Angeles Angels have hired veteran outfielder Dexter Fowler for cash at the St. Louis Cardinals acquired, or a player to be named later.

The clubs announced the deal on Thursday night.

Fowler batted .233 last season with four homers and 15 RBIs in 23 games, his fourth with St. Louis. The former Rockies and Cubs slugger is a .259 career with 127 homers and 561 RBIs.

While Fowler (35) can play all three outfield positions, he is likely to be a short-term solution in the right field for the English, who have said they prefer to give more minor league development time to Jo Adell and Brandon Marsh.

Adell, a 21-year-old man who is the Halos’ best prospect, struggled in his major league debut last season as their all-time referee, hitting 0.161 with a 0.478 OPS over 38 games.

Fowler is on track for his 13th full league season in the final year of a $ 82 million five-year contract. He has a salary of $ 14.5 million in 2021, and St. Louis remains responsible for the last two installments of $ 1 million of its $ 10 million sign-up bonus, which appear on July 1 and October 1.

As part of the deal, the Cardinals agreed to pay the English $ 12.75 million in 12 installments of $ 1,062,500 on the 15th and last day of each month from April to September.

Fowler achieved his only All-Star selection and his only World Series series in 2016 with Chicago under current English manager Joe Maddon. His ability to switch is a peer for outfielders Mike Trout, Justin Upton and Adell.

Fowler spent just one season of his career in the American league after playing for Houston in 2014.
