Loose bolts cause safety recall for Ford Mustang Mach-E in 2021

Ford today issued a safety recall for less than 75 2021 Mustang Mach-Es already delivered to customers. From Ford:

During investigations to deliver high quality and customer satisfaction, Ford discovered that vehicles have chassis bolts that the supplier does not tighten according to the specifications.

Ford says no accidents or injuries were caused by the problem and customers who have already received their Mach-E will be notified from the week of March 22nd.

Of the 1,258 affected Mach-Es, 94 percent are in the U.S., and all 90 in Canada will complete the recall before delivery to customers. The reference number for this Ford recall is 21S09.

Luckily for Ford, this is a small recall, and putting on the loose bottom bolt bolts is probably an easy task for Ford service centers. Just under 75 customers will need to take their Mustang Mach-E to the dealer for recall. It looks like the other 1100 Mach-Es will complete the recall before the customer is delivered. It is difficult to imagine that loose bottom bolt bolts can cause accidents. The bolts should still be tight enough, but should not be applied to the correct specifications when installed.

The Mustang Mach-E is a brand new model for Ford and an EV, and therefore expects more memories in the future. This happens to all manufacturers. Let’s hope Ford never has a battery recall that Hyundai and LG Chem are currently dealing with.
