Looking for a new Steelers jersey? This is your safest option

If you’re a sports jersey collector, like me, you probably bought a jersey just for the player to end up in a different team a few years later. You do not want your hard earned dollars to go to waste, but you want to repeat your team accordingly. I’ve sorted out some of the most popular Pittsburgh Steelers players in safety categories so you don’t have to worry so much about getting yourself some new wires.

Ben Roethlisberger
Cam Heyward

These guys are staples of the organization. Even during your retirement, you will see many of their jerseys around Heinz Field on a match day. If you pick up a Ben Roethlisberger or Cam Heyward jersey, you’ll know you’re a career in Steeler, and guys who never go out of style in Steel City.

TJ Watt
Minkah Fitzpatrick
Devin Bush

The only thing that stops these guys from being in the ‘Safe’ category is their emerging free agency. TJ Watt, Minkah Fitzpatrick and Devin Bush should be the staples of the Steelers for years to come. Once they are caught in their next contracts, I would imagine that all three are their Steelers. That said, negotiations sometimes fall off track and lead to surprising divorces of star players and their teams. Nothing is certain yet.

Chase Claypool
Diontae Johnson

If the Steelers have taught us anything over the past number of years, it’s not to invest in the wide receiver’s uniform or to run back. Rarely does one of these guys see a second contract, and even if one of the members of the skill group does something special, they will still move just like that from the beginning of their rookie contract.

Wait until these guys get a second contract.

Rookie immediately after the draft
Current free agents

I can not emphasize it enough. Never buy a novice sweater before it’s a hit. You’re playing with some extreme fire. For every TJ Watt and Devin Bush, they are a Jarvis Jones, Artie Burns or Ziggy Hood.

Another group I would strongly suggest staying away from is any of the current free agencies. It should be obvious, but I know some people have already put themselves in this dangerous situation. It’s just not worth it. On top of that, the sweaters will get a huge discount in a few weeks …

But what do you think? Have you ever been burned by buying a sweater too soon? Let us know your stories and about your collections in the comments below.
