COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (KRDO) – Once the second COVID-19 bill is approved for approval, some Americans can expect to receive a stimulus test within the next month.
Today, the House agreed to increase the amount of the stimulus check from $ 600 to $ 2000. The bill now goes to the Republican-led Senate, where the fate of Monday night is uncertain.
KRDO spoke to Colorado Springs residents hoping for the possibility of a $ 2,000 stimulus check next month, compared to the original $ 600 stimulus check. Many say the $ 600 would not be enough to help struggling people.
“No amount of $ 600 is not enough at all,” said Joseph Brady, a longtime Colorado. He told KRDO that the $ 600 stimulus test was almost impossible for him. “I’m 76 and I have diabetes, high blood pressure, high cholesterol and I want to go back to work, but I can not until I get the chance.”
After running out of his unemployment money, he now relies on a supplemental check that reads only eighty-one dollars a week.
What do you do with $ 81? You can not pay your electric bill with it, ‘Brady said.
Linda Grimes, a retired nurse caring for her husband, reflects Brady’s sentiment. If it is added that the $ 2000 stimulus test is the difference between food on the table or not.
‘The $ 600? I can not imagine living in a house with children? “I can not imagine that I have no food on the table, or no cash,” Grimes said.
Others, however, say that although they hope for the higher check, they are willing to accept any help they can get.
“I definitely think it would be better to wait for more money, but any amount of work, to be honest,” said Colorado Springs resident Melvin Taylor.
As for lawmakers, Colorado senator Michael Bennet believes there is still a long way to go in addition to the emergency relief package.
“The country has difficult months ahead of us as we work to distribute the vaccine and get the economy back on track.”
