LIVE UPDATES: Republicans propose postponing Trump’s charge until February

Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell has suggested that former President Trump’s indictment be postponed until February so that the former president’s new legal team has time to prepare his defense.

The Democratic-led House voted last week to charge Trump with “incitement to insurrection” after a violent mob stormed the Capitol on January 6 and delayed the certification of President Biden’s victory. House Speaker Nancy Pelosi said on Thursday she expects to pass the article to the Senate “soon” to begin a Senate hearing.

But McConnell said during a call to his GOP colleagues on Thursday that a two-week delay would allow Trump to prepare his legal defense and ensure the right process.
