Live updates: first case of highly contagious coronavirus variant in Colorado

According to government Jared Polis, a new variant of the coronavirus, which is seen in the UK and considered more contagious, has been discovered in Colorado.

It was found in a man in his twenties who is in isolation southeast of Denver in Elbert County, a rural area on the other side of the Denver metro area. He has no travel history, state health officials said.

“The health and safety of Coloradans is our top priority and we will closely monitor this matter, as well as all COVID-19 indicators. We are working to prevent spread and contain the virus at all levels,” Polis said.

Although the variant is more contagious than previously identified strains, health officials in Colorado have said that the vaccines now being given are effective against it, which urgently contributes to vaccinating Americans.
